Ms. Miriam J. Carter, Director - OP Jindal Community College was invited as one of the plenary session guest speakers at a seminar on CSR law held at Raipur, Chhattisgarh sponsored by the Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs, Ministry of Corporate Affairs, and IndiaCSR. She spoke on the link between the new CSR legislation and skills development/vocational education.  The community college model provides the requisite flexibility to respond swiftly to the training needs of all Indian youth regardless of prior educational background, she remarked.  Moreover, integrating technical and soft skills aligned with global standards and the needs of local industries is vital to preparing competent, confident, job-ready youths.  For OPJCC, skilling India means partnering with industry, civil society, local communities, and government to nurture excellence and promote wage-employment and an enabling environment for job creation.  Carter stated that opting for vocational education to fulfill the new CSR statutory requirement is a win-win situation for companies that has an immediate and sustainable impact on improving quality of life as well as economic and social mobility.
